Sudden Cardiac Arrest

When I was 45 years old on May the 6th 2008 I was driving home from work on evening. I came in to my home had dinner a  shower, well I went to bed and at 3;00 oclock in the morning I had full cardiac arrest. My wife started cpr on me until the EMT arrived, the EMT tried to shock on heart, no luck I was flat lined so they tried again and then barely they got my heart going. I was raced to the emergency but went in to a coma. I was placed on life support and my family were told to all come to the hospital that I would not make it. With the hospital packed with family and friends becasue they all wanted to say their last goodbye. Three days later I woke up from my coma,, not knowing no one or what has happend to me. I started to remember more and more each day, but alot of things I still do not from this day. Well my doctors all came in and told me that they can not explain what happened to mt me that every thing looked very good and that they had no explanation as to why this had happen. For days they ran many test on me to see if they can find any thing, well they could not, I was told that I was healthy and to help me just in case this happens again that they could put and ICD in me, this is a implantable cardioverter defibrillator. Well I told my doctors to do what they had to to make sure if it happens again that this could save my life. Now for years I have had 6 surgeries due to the defecated St Jude leads that were placed in me when I had surgery. Well now I have pain all the time and run out of air some times but for the most part I am alive. I was told by the EMT that 7,000 people in 2008 in my county died of sudden cardiac arrest and only 6 of survived

    Kerstin Wiggins,
A family member recently had a similar experience with a stroke. She went into a coma after her first stroke and has no memory of the event, the hospital or anything that happened over the next month. She is slowly starting to recovery bits and pieces of her memory but she still has so many questions. Thank you so much for sharing your story!
