New to high blood pressure medicine

My blood pressure had always been below normal or normal, even when I was pregnant with my son.  About a year ago my divorce become final and I've had issues with keeping my blood pressure in control.   I cut salt out of my diet (and my son's) and have lost nearly 75 pounds so far.  And until last week, I refused my doctor's suggestions to go on medicine to lower my blood pressure.  That was until last Tuesday night when the lower number was in the triple digits and I almost ended up in the ER.  I called my doctor the next morning and she sent a prescription in to my pharmacy without me having to go see her.  And the morning after that, I had my medication.  I check my blood pressure before taking my medicine and a couple hours afterwards.  With the exception of the first day, my lower number has been in the seventies after taking the medication.  I don't like being in my forties and on medicine to lower my blood pressure.

    2afraidofstroke,
Have you tried eating celery? I make a celery smoothie with sweeten almond or soy milk with a banana and some avocado. I drink this every morning for breakfast . It seems to help with bringing down my numbers. Taking the medication alone is not effective enough for me.
