My Fight

Story image

In November 2015 I was awakened with swollen, painful hands.  I immediately went to the my PCP Physician and was sent to the Cardiologist.  The Cardiologist immediately did an detail work up.  The Cardiologist told me that my EF (Ejection Fraction) was at 25% and I was put on a life vest for 3 months.  All of this happening, I had no ideal where did it come from and what to do with the news.  I was very weak, fatigue all the time.  After 3 months of the life vest it was recommended for me to have an ICD implanted to assist the heart synconization.  Another frighen moment.  Had that done and was told that I would be ok in a few days, well the days was much longer than a few due to not able to move, lift, and just in pain.  However. the meds started to working and me changing my diet played a major role in my recovering.  So I prayed for strength through this process.  With the help of family and friends the light began to shine.  It was a year before I began to feel better.  I was then, per the Cardiologist referred to retire disable, Why again?  Well the fatigue and edema would not go away and I just didn't have the strength to carry out my stressful job.  Now going in the 2nd year, I can say that the diet, medicine and faith got me in a better place.  I am here to share my story and be of assistance to anyone whom is in need.

    joyarjun,

    Hello there!

I have been diagnosed with LVEF problem. Cardiologist recommended non-invasive med and diet-control treatment. This combo has worked well over the past one month. My shortness of breath, feeling of nausea and swolloen feet are now all gone. I am feeling far better and fitter and lighter than before. Fluid intake daily  limited to one liter and a quarter, low-salt and low-fat diet (I have replaced all oil-based cooking with water though am allowed to use the numerous spices and other ingrediatents that characterise Indian meals!), and limited use of white meat only (chicken and fish, in any case I incline towards veg food more). Emphasis on fruits and vegetables, some bread (preferably brown, whole-grain) and  rice. Plus several meds, incl. diuretics, blood thinners, BP-control and cholesterol-control meds (plus boiled bitter gourd, a piece of raw turmeric, one bulb of garlic, cucumber and some yoghurt made at home).

My question to you is: did you have to follow restricted fluid intake (ncl. tea/coffee, soups, water-drinking etc.)? If so, are you expected to continue such restriction indefinitely? That is something I have to find out from my cardiologist. Insufficient water drinkling, they say, will lead to kidney malfunction! Yet, water is supposed to be poison for me right now as the med treatment is based on draining water from my body!

I shall look forward to more interaction with you and others on this forum.

     God bless all!
