My big surprise!

For several months I had been noticing that I got tired more quickly. Then in January 2016 I got out of bed and immediatel felt like someone hit me in the chest with a sledge hammer. We were in Florida for the winter so my husband drove me to the hospital about 12 miles. Since I had had a stress test and an echo 7 months earlier and had been given a clean bill, they did a heart cath. I had 75% blockage in the artery on the left side. They put a stent in and told me I had to change my eating habits. I became a vegetarian and lost 20 lbs. Now I feel great. I did not have a heart attack - got there soon enough. I try to get some exercise at least 5 days a week. My mother and father both  had heart problems but I am the only one of the siblings that has had a problem and I am the youngest.

    AHA Volunteer Moderator Michael C,
Hello, Babysue, well it looks like you were dealt a bum hand like a lot of us and it's how you play it out that matters. I'm glad you got help in time. I guess it goes to show you that an echo and stress test is not the end all. They didn't know I had 9 blockages till they did a cath. congratulations on the diet change, that's something I couldn't do. I'm an omnivore and always will be but the meat I do eat is extremely lean, organic, grass fed, free range, wild caught fish. I hope your siblings watch what they're doing and eating and they keep stress to a minimum because that's a killer also. exercise... extremely important. 4-5 days a week is good. even if it's just walking some distance. be aware of symptoms as there are a number of them, just don't fret about it as that will cause undue stress and you certainly don't need that. it sounds like you're taking things well and have a fairly peaceful mind. Keeping a sense of humor also helps. keep up the good work/ fight. mike
