My 10 years stroke survivor journey
Every day is learning to me. My name is Dr. Abduallah Muqbel and I am working as Professor at Umm AL Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. I had a stroke for 10 years now. I collapsed during conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. CT Scan revealed RT Middle cerebral artery stroke and I had to undergo decompression craniotomy which resulted in Left sided weakness of my body. I was comatose for 14 days post-surgery. I was admitted to specialized stroke unit to regain my independency. It was not easy for me as my father did not believe that I will get better and he tried to discharge me many time from hospital. My father told me that I will never walk again after my stroke and better to treat myself with cauterization (one type of traditional treatment after stroke). After few weeks undergoing therapy, I regained my movement and currently I am walking with single cane. I continue lecturing at the same university 6 years post stroke. My journey as stroke survivor continues and every day I am learning to improve my fine motor movement with my left hand. I am sharing my story to inspire other stroke survivors to live their life as normal as possible and never stop to improve yourself.
