Mitral/Tricupsid Valve Surgeries

Hi,
This is my first time posting my story dealing with "Heart Disease", my journey began at a very young age when I had strep throat, when turn into scarlet fever, then end being rhuematic fever, that lead me to having rhuematic heart disease. At the age of eleven I received my first surgery to replace my mitarl valve, two years after the surgery I had a stroke that keep me down for a month and a half. Even though I did not received any major damage, the struggle to learn how to walk, talk , and move my left side again was a battle. In 1979, I  received my second surgery for my mitral valve and that was the last time or so I beleived. Once you began living your life again and everything is gong well you never see whats coming until it hits.In March of 1999, I end being back in the hospital for congestive heart failure (CHF), the next month ,April I end up having my third heart surgery, the surgeon told me that I would not need another surgery after this one, this stime I had my mitral and my tricupsid replaced. Time brings about change right, well last month (March),2017, while I was visiting my cardiologist, he informed me that I should think about having
another surgery,WOW! Last year April, I had to have my deflibrillator replace for the second time and now this. To think about having another susrgery really consumes your every thoughs, I pray and ask God for guidance, but its me that is uncertain about going through this again. No matter what rode I choose to take my life is and will always be in Gods hand.. Pray for me as I pray for us all, as we walk throughthis journey of life.

    stringbean3,
I am very glad to have read that someone have experience a fourth surgery with the mitral and tricupisid valves, its good to know that you survived the surgery and hopefully doing well. Did you struggle to make the decision to have a fourth surgery or did you have a made up mind from the began? Its not about me trusting or believing in God, more about me wanting to go through the process of it all again. My visit with my cardiologist is next month, and I know their are question I need to ask of him, and maybe the answers to my question will give me a piece of mind. Right now, I am having a hard time ti make a decision, please pray 4 me as I will you. Nancy B.

    Pmoorman,
This is my first time posting. Thank you for sharing your story, I had my mitro valve repaired in 2009. my heart was in worse condition than indicated on the tests (ECHO, TEE, etc.). Thanks be to God the surgeon was able to repair, but surgery was traumatic for me. It usually takes 2-4 hours and mine was 8 hours. I was in ICU for 3 days and had to have a blood transfusion. Needless, to say I prayed God please no more surgeries, ever, please. I changed Cardiologists (so grateful) last year and he immediately began treatment for CHF. My mitro valve has minor leakage; however, the repair has caused the tricuspid valve to leak enlarging my heart. My Cardiologist has said I will need to replace the mitro valve and repair the tricuspid valve, but I don't want any more surgeries. I just began to experience AFib which lets me know the symptoms are getting worse. Your story encourages me that God is able to bring me through another surgery, as long as I remain faithful. I'm at a place now where I've surrendered to God and His will. If He decides to heal through a miracle or surgery I'm grateful for all He has done. I will definitely keep you and everyone in my prayers and in my prayer journal. We have to continue to enjoy the beautiful days God grants and trust Him for many more. Pat M.

    Khow708,
I had a mitral surgery 11 months ago and am going back in, in just 2 weeks for mitral and tricuspid too. Hoping it's my last 'open' heart and they go through a vein for the mitral in the future- because there will be future ones for me too. My story starts with radiation treatments for cancer that have since damaged my heart. I have 5 kids I have to make arrangements for each time, but it's worth it to feel well and gain life back. Be strong and yes God and angels will support.
