Stroke whilst abroad
My father had a major stroke 5 days ago. We are from England but my parents were visiting Poland for dental work (my mum).
Whilst in Poland, my dad suffered a major stroke and was taken to the local hospital. My brother and I have flown over to help and support my mum.
Due to the pandemic, we aren’t allowed to see him and aren’t even allowed in the hospital. No one speaks English to us. We have very little information. There is also a complete lack of compassion towards us and we are just being shouted at in Polish. We hope he is getting good care, but we just don’t know.
We have a friend of a friend calling them up and translating information for us, but it isn’t much.
We are all scared stiff and the fact that he is all alone in there makes it all the worse. We just want to get him home but realise that we cannot move him yet.
I don’t know what I am asking really, we just have no-one and need support and have no idea what to expect!

I am so sorry that is happened, and I can only imagine the stress you are under right now. AHA has an international presence and I will ask around to see if we are working in Poland and if there is a way we would help provide support. Can you tell me where you are in Poland? One thought is there a British consulate near you? They might be able to assist as well.
Please know that your family is not alone and that we are here to listen and support to the best of our ability from afar.
