You are not alone but I do know it feels so bad.  My daughter had a stroke at age 26 and her friends stopped coming around.  They simply did not know what to say or how to encourage.

Do you mind if I ask what city you are in?  I would love to try to help you find a support group of survivors like yourself.  I am working with a group called ABIS which stands for Association of Brain Injury survivors here in New Orleans.  We want to grow the support group to help others like yourself.

Tell me more about you.  Even if we just talk, I would love to help you not feel alone.

Kim We are not alone; there exists stroke survivors all over the world. Part of our lonely feelings come from the fact that those around us cannot know what we are going through; only those having had a similar experience can truly understand, Following a stoke a great many things change, including our social relationships .There are over 800 stroke support groups in the US. These are simply opportunities for folks living with the effects of stroke to come together and talk with others in similar situations It is one way to hear from others how they handle similar concerns and for you to talk knowing that others understand, There are two simple ways on line to find a group near you: search group finder American Stroke Association. This will take you to a window in which you input your Zip Code. And choose a distance to search this will yield the contact information for any ASA registered support groups in the area chosen. Phone the contact person and you will enter a whole new world of understanding acceptance and support, you may also search online for the National Stroke Association which has a group finder by state.

Kim - I hope you see this. I'm just checking in on you to see how you're feeling. I understand feeling alone. Sadly, people move on and keep living their own lives. I deal with loneliness a lot, too, so I understand how you're feeling.

Please let us know how you're doing.

Kim, I understand how you feel.  I decided to tell as little people as possible, as I do not want them to feel bad for me.  I have a very strong personality and do not want anyone to feel bad for me.  This seems to be a wonderful group (I just joined) please lean on us.  I am sure your family does not understand, as mine does not also.  Hang in there, some people are worse off then we are!  Time really will heal, be patient. I live in New Jersey

    Hey Kim and everybody,

I had my stroke in 1984 at age 5 due to open heart surgery complications and also have issues with freinds, family and relationships. Two ideas I had on how to be social with other people with disabilites are 1 video games, you can connect and play with people from all over, and there is a site called disabled gamers that can modify controls so disabled people can compete. What kind of games do you like?

2 Is a dating site for people with disabilities and their caregivers. Some times the damage from a stroke is so bad consent is an issue, I am NOT talking about those situations, otherwise it's just adults having fun. I understand these aren't conventional relationships but think society should  re-think what a healthy relationship is. I'm not saying I'm awesome but when I'm passed up for beaters, cheaters, theives and dope fiends it gets annoying. Maybe if we appreciate each other then others will act better..

Hope you are doing okay Kim.

    Take care
