Triple valve replace/ repair - open heart May 2019

I am three months post av replace, mitral repair and tricuspid repair.  I desperately need to talk with someone who has had  a double or triple valve repair via open heart surgery.  It would help me to know other recovery experiences.  I understand not many triple valve surgeries are done so even doctors cannot answer some questions

Many thanks!!!  I could use some support!

Welcome Liz to the support network. While I have not had the triple valve surgery, I have had mitral valve repair via open heart. At the very least we share those two common heart strings. Perhaps I can help answer some of your concerns if they are on are more gerneral level vs valve specific outside of the mitral valve. Regardless of the valve, we are all united as heart warriors in one form or another.  How can I help? ❤️

I need to know what is common protocol for heart valve replacement surgery. My dad had one replaced, and I would like to know when cardiac rehab starts.... Thanks

    Pritibird27,

Good evening and welcome to the support network!  You are among a community of heart warriors that have been there and done that! Your question is a great question.  While I cannot provide medical advice in terms of what the "protocol" is, what I can provide to you is my experience.  I have found, that every "body" presents differently in terms of recovery.  That said, I recall from my journey with open heart surgery to repair my mitral valve, that I was not able to enroll in cardiac rehab for about 2 months from surgery, give or take. For me, I endured many post surgical complications that I was not aware of prior to surgery. That said, while I did my research in advance as to "what to expect", it turned out differently for me. And while I was looking forward to getting into a routine of regular exercise post surgery, via cardiac rehab, I was not able to carry this mission out as fully expected due to my complications. I eventually gradutated from cardiac rehab about 3 months later, however, it was the best recovery plan for me ,given my "set backs".

All of this said, my heartfelt recommendation to you is to meet with your cardiologist / team and formualte a plan as to when it is safe for your heart and you to begin the cardiac rehab phase of your recovery.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns, as we welcome you with heart.

    With heart,

    Ambassador C
