Heart rate after mitral valve replacement
It has been 7 weeks since mitral valve replacement. My heart rate prior to surgery was 65 to 70. After surgery it is between 90 and 100. Is this normal.

I had a mitral valve repair that failed, and a replacement 4 months later. My resting HR prior to surgery was 58. By about 8 weeks post, it was about 73. At 4 weeks post the replacement, my resting HR is about 74, but my HR during any activity is between 80 and 100. I've been told that the rate will come down over time. I'm confident that it will.

I believe your resting HR will come down with time. Your heart experienced a lot of trauma with the surgery and will take some time to recover. I had a mitral valve repair in June 2018. I was experiencing a rapid HR, an irregular HR and occasional bouts of a-fib during the first eight months post surgery. Needless to say it was scary and frustrating. I expected to be “perfect” immediately! I was assured by cardiologist that things would get better and they did. Keep positive!
