Sleeping difficulty in CHF

Simply curious, anyone else have , had or know anyone who has/had difficulty sleeping with heart failure? My husband is having a lot of discomfort with breathing during rest/sleep time. He states that when he is sleeping he wakes "short of breath". He does not lay flat to sleep but sleeps sitting up in a recliner. Wondering if anyone may have experience with this ?

    Yes Becky,

My lungs were filling with water because of my weakening heart. Led to the feet swelling, coughing for 3 weeks and nearly collapsing and dying.

Thank you for reaching out to the support network. I'm sorry to hear that your husband is experiencing discomfort when he's trying to rest. I encourage you and your husband to raise these concerns with his physician to get their insight on what could be the cause. I can also share this page on Living with Heart Failure that has resources and fact sheets. Please keep us updated on how your husband is doing!

Not sure if this helps at all but after my open heart surgery, I could only sleep on my back. The only way I was able to do that comfortably was to use a couple of pillows under my torso to prop me up a little. Although I didn't sleep as well as my traditional method of sleeping on my side, it was much better than sleeping flat on my back.

I had to sleep on recliner too at the beginning, even so bad sleep quality. It can be assuaged when heart function improve.
