Post-care for person with mental illness
Hi. My dad had a heart attack about a week ago and had triple bypass surgery this past Friday. He is expected to come home in a few days and I am trying to arrange post care. I live out of state, and my two sisters have newborn babies (1 week, and 4 months). My mom has a disability and cannot take care of him. I am looking into options for a caretaker/nurse to come to the house and help with showers, etc. He has a mental illness, but does not take medication for it. I am not really sure where to start. Do I ask the hospital? Insurance company?

Thank you for joining the support network and for sharing your story. I'm so sorry to hear that your father just had a heart attack, but I hope that you will be able to find support and foster a community on here with people who have been through a similar experience. If you visit heart.org and click on "In Your Community" in the top right, you will be able to enter your state and zip code and find your local AHA office. From there, they may be able to help you find services in the area. Please keep us updated on how your father is doing.
