Heart attack in late 20’s

hello everyone my name is Dayana I had a MI and had two stents Inserted. I’m going through a tough time dealing with this news I’m barely 27.

I made the mistake of reading and saw that people with my condition (CAD) only have a 5 year life prognosis and it’s giving me terrible anxiety that I had to come back to the E.R since I started to have chest pains

can anyone relate  or have any encouragement for me

all I can think of is I don’t wanna die and leave my 6 and 4 year old behind

    Hi dayogls,

What we have all gone through here is a terrifying experience.  It takes time to sort this stuff out.  First you mentioned reading what someone reported should be your life expectancy?  How would they know?  Don't let stupid comments like this mess with your head.  Right now try to relax and regain your strength.  If you have cardiac rehab available to you definitely do that.  It helped me with the mental anguish and regaining my confidence. In the meantime enjoy your kids and be happy.  People on this site are very familiar with the mental aspect a heart episode can leave you with.  It helps to talk about it.  I found that the whole cardiac system neglects the mental chaos that happens to people but this site helped me tremendously.  Talking with others in the same boat was a gift that helped me through.  I wish you good health and am looking forward to reading your future posts about your progress.  ☺️

    Mary

Good morning, I am so sorry that you are having to experience this. We have a great many younger heart attack survivors on our site and I look forward to reading their responses. What did your doctor say about life expectancy and recovery? He/she is really  THE BEST person to help walk you through this piece of recovery. Best Katie

Oh dear please try not to worry so much I know how hard this is but it's all new to you right now reading dr google does not help it's mainly full of rubbish.  Your young enough and strong enough to push through this get cardio rehab if possible follow a healthier path walk and eat sensible you will improve in time but worrying slows this repair down I know anxiety all too well since my HA counselling helped me but this site is full of nice people who will tell you about their experiences you will see it gets better you get better and in a lot of cases life gets better I would not believe this a year ago but it is true please ask questions your unsure about on here it's far more reliable and honest than some of the rubbish out there oh my mum had a HA 19 years ago she's 80 and currently on a cruise in the med now that's real take it easy

Hi Dayana.  Welcome to the site and wish you didn't have to deal with this.  You are awful young to have to deal with this.  I had my HA at 43 earlier this year and many folks in the ER (and after) told me that was young to get an HA.  What you read doesn't sound right.  If your cardiologist told you that, you might want to get a second opinion.  As mentioned here, you might want to go through cardiac rehab to get your mind and body in better shape.  Cardiac rehab teaches you about diet, exercise (monitored) and also mindfulness techniques to lower your stress levels.  I'm just getting started and already feel better mentally.   That will hopefully equip you with tools to help prolong your life.  Counseling has helped me with my anxiety levels.

How long has it been since you got the stents?   I'm in month 4 and also still get chest pains at times where  my 3 stents were placed.  I get shortness of breath fairly often.  It's fairly common.   Did your doc prescribe you nitro pills to help with the chest pain?

@vancet thank you for your reply I got the stents put in n 2 days ago

Im very sad and worried because I made the mistake if reading every article on Google about life with cad

It all gives a very sad prognosis and I cant phantom dying in 5 years or less

I'm really glad I found this forum

Hi Dayana, you are very young & I am sorry to hear that you are going through this at such a young age. I was 49 when I had my HA 3 months ago. Anyway there are a lot of people on here more experienced then me, but I wanted to reply to your posting. I am a RN & have seen many many many patients live long lives after a HA & stent placement or bypass surgery. You are young & strong & will get through this. Your babies need you. I am here if you ever want to talk, Cathy

Just adding to what's been previously mentioned, although a very unpleasant event, a HA in and of itself is unlikely to significantly shorten your lifespan. Look at it more as a 'wake up call' to be more mindful of developing habits to reduce your risks. Either you misread or it was misstated that a HA would shorten your life. https://www.heart.org/en/health-topics/heart-attack/life-after-a-heart-attack

Consider yourself lucky, most people don't realize they can/should make changes until it's too late. Happy Health! [Take your meds/etc]

What about a nstemi caused by CAD?

    That's  what I have

Many sites said 70% of people with that diagnosis were dead before 10 years

    This shouldn't be me I'm barely 27 I feel I e aged 30 years

I have no one to talk to cause I dont wanna worry my family and also everyone tells me I'm a survivor and need to get over it
