Hi everyone- my sister died 6 weeks ago at the age of 55. She had undiagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy. My mom died 30 years ago of the same thing. So now I'm in the care of a cardiologist. As you all know it's an inherited condition. I'm 52 years old. I'm sort of freaking out about my prospects of surviving to 60. At this point my EJ is normal but I have flutters (have for years) and am currently wearing an event monitor to determine what's going on, anyway feeling like I need some support from folks who've dealt with DCM. Thanks and happy holidays.

I am so very sorry to hear about your sister and your mom. That has to be so sad and at the same time scary for you. It's good you're under the care of a cardiologist. It should make a huge difference for you. There are lots of good medications and procedures they can do for the different issues. Will they be doing genetic testing on you? I'm glad your EF is good for now. Try to enjoy your life while being aware of symptoms to watch for and keeping regular dr visits. Do all you can to stay healthy and happy. I'm glad you are here. There is hope!
All the best!

Just writing to find out how you are doing. What's the latest? I have had this for decades. And yes I worry about the genetic part too. Back when my Dad died, they didn't know much. And my mother died young of cancer, so I'm not sure if she had it. I live a normal life, am almost 75 now and they just monitor me to see what's going on. My EJ is still normal. No major plumbing problems along the way, but some electrical issues that are totally under control. Update us. I care and you are definitely not alone.

Hi, I am 48 and have just been diagnosed with dcm and hf. I, too, am often terrified of the future. I have shed many tears but I do try to focus on the positive. It’s great that you are seeing a Cardiologist, I have a couple of Specialists taking care of me and it gives me a lot of comfort. Take care.
