Vision Loss after Massive HA
My SIL had a massive heart attack a week ago. She was on ice for two days and put into a medically induced coma. When she awoke after the two days, she could see perfectly. On the fourth morning she lost her vision. Everything is extremely blurry and all she can do is make out shapes. The hospital did an MRI to rule out a stroke. Nothing showed up on the MRI. She was discharged yesterday and went immediately to an Opthalmologist and the doctor did not see anything that would cause this. Has anyone known of someone that has experienced this after a heart attack and if so, did their vision return eventually? We are very concerned for her. She is only 53 and this all feels so sureal!

I am so sorry that all of this happened! I have not heard of vision loss post heart attack. Please know what we are thinking of your sister-in-law and your entire family. Katie

Hi Pamie, I had a patient who had sudden vision changes after a heart procedure. After multiple tests and exams, it was determined that it was an ocular stroke or eye stroke. The ophthalmologist couldn't see anything on exam, and nothing showed on MRI, no other symptoms of stroke either. He slowly had some improvement in his vision, but it didn’t return to normal. The doctors said there wasn’t a procedure, or medication that could resolve it. A stroke is very similar to a heart attack, so it could be very likely that during her recovery small plaque could have ruptured and caused her vision changes. I hope you can find some answers! Be well, T.
