I am just wondering if anyone knows this: what is Metaprolol actually do? Is it for heart rhythm control or heart rate control or both?
My doctor only mentioned that it would slow my heart rate so I am not certain what else it does?

Metoporlol is mainly a rate drug, but it also lowers your blood pressure. and it is sometimes used as a psych drug as it lowers the heart's response to anxiety and or adrenaline.
Important to know is do not drink grapefruit juice while on this drug. It interacts with other drugs, notably magnesium, which many of us take. also sleep meds interact with it. so check
Hope this helps.

Teri - It is rate control. The drug should keep your HR low even when you put it under a load like walking or going up stairs. It will make you feel a bit off when the drug kicks in and tells your heart to stay slow but it wants to speed up. I was on this drug for a couple of months but was eventually taken off.
