My name is Carole and I am 59 and have hypertension. My brother died unexpectedly from atherosclerosis and I have my first appointment with a cardiologist on January 15, 2019. I’m glad I found this support forum.

Welcome to our forum, Carole! Seeing a cardiologist is a smart thing for you to do. Any heart or arrhythmia problems can be detected with a monitor and other tests which the cardiologist may recommend for you. If you have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias, you will be referred to an electrophysiologist ( a cardiologist who specializes in arrhythmias), You can think of a cardiologist as the "plumber" of the heart and the electrophysiologist as the "electrician" of the heart. I think you will find valuable information and a lot of support in this group so that you will know that you are "not alone". You will also learn that a-fib can affect each of us differently and we respond to medicines and procedures in different ways. Sometimes many of us experience a lot of anxiety when we have been diagnosed with a heart problem and you may find this to be true for you as well. Sharing our concerns and experiences in this community can be very helpful and I hope you will find the support you are seeking in this forum. Please let us know how your appt with the cardiologist goes....and feel free to express any other concerns you may have. We are happy to have you join our group and hope you will continue to let us know how you are doing.
Wishing you the best,
(My A-fib Experience Community Leader)
