Seeking help with PAD symptoms - burning limbs
Hi, I'm 57, new here, and new to heart disease. Though I"m sure it had been developing in me for years, I just became aware I had it 2 weeks ago. I had chest pain all day one day, and so I made an dr. appointment, and found out I have very high blood pressure. Still had chest pain all day too, but apparently that's not an emergency, and reading some posts I've seen that that alarming conditioning is something many have to deal with routinely. I was referred to a cardiologist and he will be doing some tests, but not for a montth. In the meantime, I have been prescribed some meds that have been bringing my bp down. My biggest immediate concern now is PAD symptoms. I am sure I have PAD, though the docs haven't told me. My bp is different in each arm and looking back I do remember some unusual cramping in my legs after walking for a while, but thought it was a stiff muscle thinng and never considered it could be from heart disease. And then yesterday, I suddently started experiencing burning pain in my feet, legs and arms. My forehead even feels hot. And it hasn't ceased since it started. It's so uncomfortable, I feel for anyone else going through this.
For those of you who are suffering this, how do you deal with it? Have you found anything that works for you to bring some relief? I have considered using Lidocaine. Has anyone tried that? And has anyone made progress at all in keeping these symptoms from occurring at all? Or I am doomed to experience this for the duration? I will be calling my doctor about it, but would greatly appreciate any help here. Thanks.

Thank you. I am also looking for mental health help for coping with this. Are there therapists who specialize in heart disease patients?

I can share some resources on Mental Health and Well-Being and Staying Motivated. I hope you connect with others on the Support Network who can share more resources and advice that they have. I would also urge you to look at the PAD forum on the support network page. You might find some people that have gone through similar experiences as you.

JosephJ, I don't think I can offer anything specific (since I've never had PAD). I'm glad you are seeing a cardiologist about your condition. I was googling on PAD and found the Mayo Clinic's website on this condition to be quite informational. Be sure to develop a list of questions to ask the cardiologist, and let us know how things go!
