Omega 3s supplements and AF
I have PAF as well as macular degeneration (AMD). For my AMD I am on an eye vitamin which I am to take with O-3s. It is fish oil based, 1200 mg. I seem to have fewer episodes on 3/day, but 1-2/day is recommended on the bottle. I asked my AF clinic and they checked with the AF pharnacy. Here is the reply from the pharmacy today:
It's interesting that you are experiencing fewer episodes on a higher dose of omega-3. There is actually ~3% increased risk of A. fib/flutter when patients are on omega-3. Based on the dose you are currently on, lack of strong evidence for its use in macular degeneration, and an increased risk of bleeding with higher doses of omega-3 (given that you are also on a blood thinner currently)... You may continue 2/day if you are feeling better on it, however I cannot recommend increasing to 3/day.
I experience a significant difference on O-3s and I thought this might be of interest. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought the pharnacist's reply was interesting. I will continue on 2/day. I would rather take a supplement than a daily heart rhythm medication, at least for now.
