Amiodarone

After being on Amiodarone for roughly 18 months now, my cardiologist suggested getting a chest X Ray and blood work. No signs of Amiodarone toxicity. Lungs clear. A1c at 5.9 and PSA at .19. I feel very fortunate. Amiodarone working well.

    Thanks for pposting that Ron

How old are you and what dosage are you taking? Any other heart medication in addition? What about blood thinner?

I am 87,on 2X 200mg Amiodarone , 2x Motorrolol and 120 mg Cartia 1x. Started 2 month ago and in and out of sinus. Last 3 days back in sinus but max heart rate is only 85bpm will get off Cartia in 10 days to increase max heart rate. No blood thinner, my Left Atrial Appendage is sown shut.

    Thanks

Never really had any issues with either medicine. My cardiologist did tell me that my dosages were really low. He felt that was a good starting point,  and it has never increased.

    Ron,

If I understand correctly, you were in sinus when you started on amiodarone?

    Thanks

    Has anyone been on Multaq?

No, but the DR. wants me to get off Amiodarone and switch to Multaq. Recently my regimen was changed from 2x 200mg Amio, 2X 25mg Motoprolol ER and 1X cardia to 1x Amio 2x moto and no cardia. The present regimen works fine and my feeling is, if it works leave it alone. There have been no side effects so far. my age is 87 that may be his reason. Multaq does not work as well as Amiodarone but has less effect on the lungs. In Europe, Multaq it is not often prescribed because of not being effective.

Ron, After 18 month no side effects, how often did he check you?

They test me about every 6 months. Was tested again this week. They cut back on my Metoprolol by 50 percent. (Heart rate was to slow, is what the doctor said). All other criteria looked good. They started my Amiodarone the day after my last major event, and I was back in sinus at that time.
