Hypertension started Atenolol 25 MG
In my Late 60's -Started taking Atenolol last year in October- my BP was gradually increasing 150-160 over 90. My BP with the medication stabilized.
A few questions. I noticed reading this forums all the different medication. On medication why is it one is better than the other? Obviously I will talk to my doc about it. Any feedback right now
I saw a couple of posts stating they had stage 2 Hypertension. I never heard of stages because I starting recently am I stage 1?
Lastly , anyone use any homeopathic remedies?
Update: it appears that my medication is not lasting too long At night lately I feel anxious and feel like my blood pressure is up. I have a BP monitor but I get super anxious just taking it and if high I freaked out . Plus I'm not sure how accurate it is . Luckily I'm seeing my doctor in a couple of weeks.

Talking with your doctor is one of the best things you could do so your questions will be answered accurately. Not sure why there are so many different meds to solve the same problem but people do seem to react to them differently. I was on one statin that gave me some issues but am fine now after switching to another one as recommended by my cardiologist.
Regarding blood pressure, have you considered starting or increasing exercise? This helps to lower it. Before considering it though, ask your doctor about it and more specifically what he/she would allow you to do.
Best of luck!

Hello there !
Hopefully there's a reason why your doc started you on a Beta blocker ( Atenolol) instead of other classes of drugs. A beta blocker is a second line of treatment when the first line is inadequate, or there is a specific reason for prescribing a beta blocker, a prior heart attack being one of them.
Pl check with your doc whether other classes of drugs like a diuretic ( water pill, eg. Aquqzide, or Hydrazide), or Calcium Channel blocker ( amlodipine), or ACE ( Enalapril, Ramipril) or an ARB ( Telmisartan, Olmesartan, Losartan) can be started as a first line of treatment.
Of course lifestyle changes including exercise, meditation/Yoga, eating less processed foods, more whole grains, greens and fresh vegetables, no smoking/alcohol are highly recommended, depending on your current condition & as approved by your physician. Some supplements like Magnesium, or a multi vitamin, Vitamin-D may be necessary depending on your blood test as advised by your doc.
