Young(ish) Adult Child Managing Post-Stroke Rehab for 60 year old Single Mother, Seeking Support and Advice
My name is Jamie, I'm in my early 30s and my mother recently (7 weeks ago) had an ischemic stroke. She had emergency surgery and is currently at home after acute rehab with 24/7 assistance. She is on medicaid and has very minimal financial structure to fall back on, so a lot of the finances fall to me. All of the organization of appointments, finding doctors ensuring she has adequate care, falls to me.
I am wondering if there are others in this forum who are in or have been in a similar situation who would be willing to share their experiences and lessons learned as they moved forward in their journey.

I am sorry that you have to manage this and I'm sure your mother is very grateful for your help. Although I haven't had to do that, I have had to be a caregiver for a parent. To manage that, my siblings and I exchanged various times to help with my father's care. Do you have any siblings you can rely on to help? If not, I would recommend that you seek help from someone who might be able to offer financial advice. Perhaps a friend or someone you know who has experience in this. Try and network with people to see if there is anyone who knows someone who could help you.
I wish you the best of luck in caring for your mother!
