Patricia McAfee – Get moving
Patricia is a registered nurse passionate about healthy living. She lives in Georgia.
Getting exercise in the winter months can be challenging for seniors. Unpredictable weather and minor aches and pains can lead to a more sedentary lifestyle. This sedentary life can also contribute to depression.
Looking for ways to increase my activity time, I discovered the fun of using my watch device to help me monitor my activity. I first focused on how many steps I got each day. Then, I branched out and used the device to help me monitor how much time I spent sitting and how much exercise time I did each day. I have to change up my routine from time to time, but I have learned a 30-minute walk through the rooms of my house is the same as a 30-minute walkout in the neighborhood. I put on my favorite music and just get walking. If something happens to break my routine, it takes me a few days to get back at it, but my watch is a constant reminder that I need to get moving. It is really about movement – get up and get moving!
