Do More Than Survive!
You see the guy in the red shirt and red baseball cap with his arms raised in the picture?
He died that day…
DON’T’ FEEL SORRY FOR HIM!
Sounds crazy right…I know! The guy in that picture is in a much better place today.
Why?
The old version of him died, and he lives today with a newfound perspective about life and what it means to be alive.
The guy that I’m talking about is me.
This was the first picture taken of me as a heart attack survivor. What’s even crazier is that while this picture was taken, I was actively having my heart attack and did not even realize it!
It was July 13, 2017, on a hot summer day in the park after a harmless kickball game that gave me new life.
Fortunately, I’m here today to share my heart attack survival story with you.
I thought I was out of shape, having a hard time breathing due to the weather, the pollen, the heat and not being active in quite some time. I never had the classic symptoms although the warning signs were there…
Yet, I ignored them out of fear. Four hours after this picture was taken, my wife was driving me to the emergency room because I knew something was wrong.
Sixteen hours after this picture was taken I was able to officially label myself as a heart attack survivor!
While filling in the middle of my story when sharing it with others, I always tell people, “Don’t feel sorry for me”!
The day the old me died was the same day I started to celebrate my new lease on life.
My life’s mantra is Dream In 3DTM –– Desire, Discipline, Dedication.
You must desire to be, do and have more.
You must have the discipline to do what is necessary to get what you want in this life.
You must be dedicated day in and day out to go from where you are to where you want to be.
The picture shows me smiling with arms raised. At that moment, I was just happy to get through that kickball game alive.
Today, this picture and my experience means so much more to me because I’m a survivor who can Dream In 3D!
If you’ve never experienced a heart attack, please take my word for it and do what you can to avoid it. You’ve got more to live for without having your second birthday…It’s not cool!
If you’re a fellow heart attack survivor, it’s my hope and desire that you continue to stay focused on your health and do your best to avoid having another cardiac event.
Don’t allow yourself to feel sorry for what got you here. Allow yourself to celebrate what you can do and who you can become as a heart attack survivor.
Second chances don’t always happen.
Dreams don't die but old habits can.
Do your best and Dream In 3D!
